Delightful Distractions

I am an eternal dreamer.

A child at heart.

Forever an optomist,

(just ask my husband).

Forever painting,

(just ask my daughter).

Forever reaching and teaching,

(just ask my students).

Meet the sister paintings; Silent Night, Barn Swallow and Joy to Our World, Dove. I created the second painting Joy to Our World, Dove for the Festival of Trees 2024 at the University of Northern Iowa. I was honored to have the opportunity to be the guest artist for this fundraising event put on by Mercy One Medical Center in Cedar Falls Iowa. In many cultures the dove is a symbol for peace and hope. As I created this image of the dove bringing prosperity to the world I thought about how the sun brings forth the opportunities of a new day to each and every living thing. In correlating with this idea of day and prosperity I thought about the opposite, the rest that comes as we are blanketed in the moonlight and the silent thought of evening, just as the Barn Swallow flies well into the dusk and impending night. After I created the dove painting where we see the brightness of day, I naturally wanted to create its opposite, the cool serenity of night. I greatly enjoy the way these two paintings support each other by presenting opposing ideas but similar composition. The Joy to Our World, Dove painting will be auctioned off online and present at this year’s Festival of Trees, while It’s pair painting, Silent Night, Barn Swallow, is available for purchase, please email to inquire about this artwork.

My Approach

Artist Statement

I believe that art is one of the last true forms of magic that exists. As a young child I saw the world as a painting waiting to be brought to life through the canvas. I enjoy the beauty that coming to the canvas brings for the creator as well as the viewer. Through my art I hope to elicit the beauty of nature, and the energy of life.

Hopeful Hues

In past works I focused mainly on the human figure and the relationships between people. In this series I go back to my roots and reinterest myself in the connection between Mothers, Daughters, and familial bonds.
